Sweet Fancy Moses

It's been quite a while since I posted. Lack of anything to say, baby who's refusing to nap, wayyyyy too much work, and oh yes, did I mention that my sweet boy is perfect in every way except he just. won't. nap?

That being said, he's been sleeping for like an hour right now. We're sleep training. Kindly don't share what a horrible mother that makes me.

I'm just really upset abut the election, among other things. Until Palin was nominated, I could honestly say that while I really, really want Obama to win, I wouldn't be horrifed if McCain did, becauase I thought he was a man of honor and would not be bad for the country. Enter Caribou Barbie. She's unqualified, not bright, and I have serious issues with much of what does come out of her mouth. Like that big-city, liberal-leaning people are somehow not American, not "real" Americans anyway. So, um, do I get to stop paying my taxes now?

And the hate mongering at the rallies has been just awful. It turns my stomach to think that in 2008, we're still here, with race-baiting and nastiness. When screaming "Terrorist" and "Kill him" at rallies is okay, when John McCain tells Barack Obama during their last debate that he's proud of the people coming to their rallies, these people calling for his head. How is this even acceptable? These people even booed McCain himself when he tried to show some class and tell them to simmer down. It scares me that America still harbors these kind of people, who are so distrustful of someone who looks different and has a strange name that they'd rather see him killed than president.

I care about and love many Republicans -- my dad, sister in law, and two best friends from college just for starters. None of these people are evil, scary racists, nor are they stupid enough to believe Obama is some kind of terrorist. I don't know how they can justify this kind of stuff happening in their name (if you're reading, feel free to weigh in, guys).

I'm just really, really eager for it to be Novmber 5th and this all to be over.

I totally agree with you! I was okay with McCain, until Palin. I also don't understand how racism still even happens! What century do these people live in???

As for sleep training, you do what you need to do to get through the day and night! Glad he is perfect otherwise!

ok, I have many points, so please stay with me.

1. We both agree that all hate speech is deplorable. There is no place for race-baiting in our lives, let alone this election. But some might consider your (and others) use of "Caribou Barbie" to describe Palin, as sexist. Is that ok?

2. You refer to her speech in North Carolina that mentioned "real america". First of all, I ask you to actually read her quote. She never mentions "big-city", "liberal leaning", or even "real americans". I feel that you and others in the media are reading way too much into this. She is in a small town. She is telling those in attendance what she likes about rural areas. Her actual quote was, "...we believe that the best of America is in the small towns that we get to visit, and in the wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America." She never mentions that these people are more patriotic or better than people from anywhere else. For you and others to be offended by her speech, I believe, is unwarranted and cheap.

3. I can honestly say that I have not heard any stories of racist comments being displayed at McCain rallies. The one instance I remember is where an older lady started to stutter when she seemed to be asking a question of McCain about Obama. McCain cut her off and basically said that he would not listen to that type of talk. Which I thought was noble. I will say publicly that I denounce any republican, or McCain/Palin supporter that uses any form of hate speech, whether toward Obama or any other person. I don't want to be associated with that.

4. I assume that I am one of your "two best friends from college". this offends me. I am not a close enough friend to be one of your best friends period? you have to add "from college"? If I am not one of those "two best friends from college", please disregard #4

msuspartan99: here are some racist gems from McCain/Palin rallies.

I could go on but you get the picture.

Also, I think Amy's interpretation of Palin's small town comment is right on the money. "Wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America" absolutely implies that those living outside of those areas are not "real" Americans.

No wonder I missed those... I dont read "The Huffington Post". Thanks.

America is a place... Americans are people.. she said nothing about Americans. She has had enough words put in her mouth please don't add to it.

obviously we disagree.

toodles :)

I, too, can not wait for this election to be over. But, surely you HAVE to admit that this deplorable speech goes both ways. How about the cartoon on dailykos about "What's the difference between Palin's mouth and vagina?" "Only one thing that came out of her vagina is retarded." C'Mon...that's sexism and as a mom of a special needs child, I find that especially horrifying!! And, please...the people on your side have been blasting McCain because of his age time and time again...but, I guess ageism is OK. Ageism, sexism, and ripping on special needs kids is OK. So, if you are going to stand by your candidate and those who are ugly on your side who support him, then how am I bad for doing the same?

I happen to love Sarah Palin. I think anyone who can oust a popular governor of her own party and be as successful as she has been in Alaska is at least as qualified as the PRESIDENTIAL candidate on the other side. The people there think she has done a great job and are happy with the changes she has made. I happen to think she is qualified. And, yes, Amy if you were able to work your way up to be editor of a small town newspaper and in a very short amount of time make changes to that paper that made 98% of the people happy, then you would be qualified to be editor of NY Times. I think she's gotten a raw deal. She gaffes and somehow McCain has bad judgement. Biden gaffes (horribly...c'mon watching the stock market crash on the TV while FDR was president not to even mention the national crisis thing) and NOT ONCE has anyone questioned Obama's judgement.

I don't want Obama to win for many reasons...not a single one has to do with his race. I do not think he's a terrorist, nor do I even care where he was born or whether he has dual citizenship. A few bad apples on our side should not disqualify my whole argument. Just as I don't think any of the "left-wing" nut jobs disqualifies yours.

And, good for you on the sleep training. I hope that this gets you some good, quality naptime to write more on your blog :)

And, I hope it's over November 5th...fingers crossed!! :)

Someone shouts that Obama is a nigger and Palin just keeps on talking.

Why is it that Amy is being taken to task for not mentioning ugliness done by the left but those doing the criticizing make absolutely no mention of the racism being seen so often these days on the right? Hypocritical much?

I've got to say ditto, ditto, ditto - to both no naps and being ready for the political stuff to be over - I'm so sick of the ads. Can't I watch crappy TV in peace, people? As for naps - Axel naps now, but there's was a nasty napless/nap battle stretch. Some fussing (that's the gentler word I used for crying because it makes me feel less mean) was necessary.

While I am liberal leaning myself, I do have to say that, for me, the conservatives/Republican-leaning folks in life actually temper the crazies for me. It makes me stop and think, "OK, yes, there are some bad things being said, and I disagree with pretty much every McCain/Palin policy stance, but the fact that my lovely mother is a Republican must mean there's some value that I'm missing. They can't be all bad, can they?" It's very Pollyana of me, and I admit that I can be optimistic to a fault.
