Where I have been

So I have a nifty new gig! I am the Detroit correspondent for Savvy Source. My mission, along with the 17 other bloggers in several big cities, is to write about cool, fun educational things to do with your kids here in tha D.
Go here:

And check it out. I am, to put it mildly, open to suggestion (AmyPT, anything you can suggest on the East Side would be awesome). It's been insane working toward launch, but I think it's going to be a blast once we get going. And I totally feel like I get to sit at the cool table what with the bloggers we have involved.

Um, the link doesn't work. Or rather, i click on the image & just get a bigger version of it.

Have you checked out the new little kid's section at the science center? It is great! I am sure you have that listed already ;) if you fix the link, i will see if i can make any more useful suggestions....

Kate, here is the link (I had to Google the site):

Amy, congrats on the opportunity! You are a great mom-ambassador for Detroit, and are doing a great job so far! :)

I'm not sure if this is a problem with all the posts or not, but I tried to respond to the post "Budding Art Critic" and got a system error (3 times, so I don't think it was a fluke). I sent a message to let them know of the problem, but still want to respond to you...so I hope you don't mind, but here goes. :)

Great post, Amy! My parents and I took my sons, 4 and 2, to the DIA and Children's Museum earlier this spring and encountered many of the same problems. Though my older son wasn't so much "whirling dervish" as "sulky and sullen." Thankfully the suits of armor display soon after entering the building helped the attitude. The "eye spy" games were also a hit; even the not-quite-2-year-old enjoyed finding the "puppy" in the room.

I whole-heartedly agree with taking in the DIA in small doses when visiting with young children. We probably saw 1/8th of the museum that day before they had had enough, and were begging to go the Children's Museum. But it is important to expose our children to the arts as much as possible, so I would like to go for a return visit someday. Maybe next year.

By the way, to make multiple visits a little less pricey (though I was surprised to find admission cheaper than expected), take advantage of the free "Museum Adventure Pass" being offered at Detroit area libraries through October. There are many, many museums that are participating (sadly, not the Science Center), even some that I've never heard of.

Hey...I just noticed that the Museum Adventure Pass has been extended to 2009! Hopefully it will encourage more people (my own family included) to visit our museums more often!

Just thought I'd let ya know. :)

Hi Amy,
Thanks for stopping by my blogs earlier! (MetroMode and Musings). Congrats on the new gig too! Looks like it's going to be a great publication. Don't forget the petting farm at Heritage Park...but you already knew about that Ms. News-Herald alumna. ;)

I'd say you were lucky, but I know hard work and talent - not a whole lotta luck got you this spot. Congrats, and I hope it works out very well for you!!!
As far as East side suggestions, I'll have to ask my sister. All of my parenting has been done in GR. And most of my fun growing up times were in the safety of our backyard. Look for email in the next week.

Not sure how I stumbled onto your blog, but glad I did. The downside is that I am now realizing that I am a boring middle-aged mom from the burbs. The Museum Adventure Pass is cool and we are headed to the DIA soon!
